why worry about system administration, maintenance, updates, planned obsolescence,
os wars, software tools, algorithm implementations, code debugging, speed
and memory limitations, installation, theft?
there is no reason not to apply now the paradigms of conceptual art to algorithmic computer art: text and sketches
are enough, plus obviously for our purpose some pseudo code. this will provide
serious savings, lots of free time, and let all enjoy one's brain agility
again.
start the twenty first century y2k clean, unwired and computer free...
1. "computeatr: roto_duchamp.qt"
( mandatory tribute to the founder of * things )
"prepare several intriguing spirals, and rotate them around their center
into qt movie loops.
scan a portrait of marcel duchamp and do the same.
load on fail-safe system for 24x7 operation.
start the qt viewers in infinite loop mode placing their windows at random
on the screen."
2. "completely concrete"
( a concrete geometry piece inspired by max bill's sixteen constellations
)
"create several classes of geometric objects.
class rules define how new objects upon instanciation can place themselves
relatively to other pre-existing objects and inside the sheet.
[optional rules of spatial composition and colouring can be added here]
instantiate objects at random within limits .
run in series. use of genetic programming optional."
3. "perturbed sand"
"build a sand machine. program and load an aperiodic path for its magnet.
install on top a long pendulum, terminated by a fine iron needle.
swing the pendulum so that the needle will scratch the surface of the sand.
start magnet movement and watch on the sand how it perturbs the path of
the needle."
4. "meditation"
"create a tcl script, using its html package, to scan the search engines
for art related sites.
compare number found with firenze population during quattrocento. then meditate upon the decline of civilization."
5. "work in progress"
"create a tcl script, using its html package, to scan the search engines
for certain art related information periodically (or any other information
of one's choice).
use the numbers of links found to update in real time the parameters defining
a fractal piece, a concrete geometry piece, and a photoshop5.0 script editing
a picture of mona lisa.
rebuild the pieces and refresh the webserver content."
